Backspace should accelerate for single letters as well as words

Bug Description

Currently the backspace only accelerates when it starts deleting words, so deleting a very long string of characters which are unbroken by spaces takes a long time.

as a quick fix can we make the press and hold auto-repeat time faster for delete key?
