Bug Description

Issue
=====

A few users reported that Google Play Music hangs in Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr. However, I haven't managed to reproduce this issue in a clean Ubuntu 14.04 installation in VirtualBox.

Screenshot: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/180151629/nuvola.png

It was discovered that the bug occurs in bare WebKitGtk debugging tools, so it is necessary to report it upstream to the WebKit bugzilla - see comment 44.

Original report
===============

Nuvolaplayer just hangs when started. This is on Ubuntu 14.04 using the 2.3.2-0.1~trusty package from http://ppa.launchpad.net/nuvola-player-builders/stable/ubuntu. See attached screenshot.

Here's the command line output:

I got the same warning (with alex instead of mthaddon).

And while running as root via gksudo, I got this warning:

Nuvola Warning servicesmanager.vala:98: Unable to load service from /root/.local/share/nuvolaplayer/services/googleplay: /root/.local/share/nuvolaplayer/services/googleplay is not a directory

All this while the service is in /usr/share/nuvolaplayer/services/googleplay. Any way to change where Nuvola Player is looking without changing the source code?

This should be a debugging message rather than a warning, you can ignore it.

I'll create a test case to find out whether the bug is in Nuvola Player or in WebKit web rendering library.

That's very unfortunate, because the issue seems to be in WebKitGtk library rather than in Nuvola Player. Could you install a package libwebkit2gtk-3.0-25 and try out WebKit2Gtk MiniBrowser?

Then, I got rid of the unstable build for the sake of re-installing it WHILE the firefox plugins were manually disabled. I got an error from dpkg processing the package nuvolaplayer-flashplugin. I remembered to realize I should be recording the output this time:

First I got a popup box with the following message:

"Flash plugin not installed

This web-based streaming services utilizes Adobe Flash for music playback, but no compatible Flash plugin has been found. Nuvola Player requires Flash plugin wrapped with nspluginwrapper because of conflicting libraries (GTK+ 2 and GTK+ 3)."

I was still able to sign in, but the hanging issue still persisted. (As in all my tests).

Thanks Alex. Unfortunately, I still have no idea why Google Play Music hangs on your machine whereas it works perfectly in a clean Ubuntu 14.04 installation. Also, the test confirmed my suspicion that the bug is not in Nuvola Player but in WebKitGtk web rendering engine (both WebKit1 and WebKit2).

The bug is that Google Play Music doesn't load successfully in both
WebKitGtk+ and WebKit2Gtk+. Post following info:

 * Your distribution and version.
 * Screenshots from both webkitgtkframe (WebKitGtk+) and MiniBrowser
(WebKit2Gtk+) - see
http://nuvolaplayer.fenryxo.cz/help/troubleshooting/googleplay.html
 * Link to webkitgtkframe source:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~fenryxo/nuvola-player/2.4.x/view/head:/src/webkitframe/webkitframe.vala
 * Version of WebKitGtk: `dpkg-query -l libwebkit2gtk-3.0-25 libwebkitgtk-1.0-0`

Use link File a bug from the right sidebar ofhttp://webkitgtk.org/ -
it contains some handy default values

During reading WebKitGtk mailing list I found a thread suggesting the
issue might be a bad graphic driver. Could anybody still affected by this issue try out whether does
any of following commands work?

LIBGL_DRI1_DISABLE=1 nuvolaplayer -D
LIBGL_DRI2_DISABLE=1 nuvolaplayer -D
LIBGL_DRI3_DISABLE=1 nuvolaplayer -D
LIBGL_DRI1_DISABLE=1 LIBGL_DRI2_DISABLE=1 LIBGL_DRI3_DISABLE=1 nuvolaplayer -D
