Bug Description

Actually this indicator is load for all users. It would be very recommendable to change this behavior. The indicator should be loaded required by the user like other indicators that it loads with a .desktop file in autostart folder.

The indicators that load with a .desktop file are AppIndicators. indicator-notifications is not an AppIndicator, and so is either always there, or not, by design of the panel-service. It cannot be an AppIndicator because they strip off markup and formatting from menu items, so it would be impossible to properly display the notifications (which annoys me because it would have been much more simple as an AppIndicator).

As I said in the email, it would be possible to add a setting to hide the indicator. This is all that can be done without redesigning the panel-service.

Should build and be available on the PPA in a couple of hours. You can hide the indicator with:

gsettings set net.launchpad.indicator.notifications hide-indicator true

and show it again by replacing true with false.
