The _dpkg_status got defined only when a custom root was used, like the
case is in the tests. When the real code didn't pass a custom root,
reloading the channels failed.

Don't loop on error in mechanisms, make sure the polkit handle is forgotten, not kept open and handle the NoReply error in the proxy. This makes the dialog disapear and the script exits cleanly.
