The software doesn't accept to be packaged by anything other than Debian (it FTBFSes when we add a delta), and the failure happens because of the new Django 4.0 in the archive.

I thought the same, but the discussion on bug #1554843 led me to believe that the issue of unsupportability wasn't deemed critical to justify the removal. Maybe I'm reading too much between the lines?
