Say what?

"Since the entire GNOME desktop forms a single security context,
authorizing individual applications within it was aggravating users
without providing any security benefit."

This strikes me as stretching the truth at best.

I humbly suggest that this needs:
 - discussion on the dev list
 - at least one security experts review (I can think of several nasty
things this would permit right off hand).
