[IMP] avoid costly list.append as much as possible in nested for loops, setting
list_append = list.append one time and reuse it is much faster.
The improvement is very small, but somme of this append() here were called
a lot for one synchronization with nothing to synchronize, the
gain is perhaps even bigger in synchronization with a lot of data.
