Looks good. Thanks for doing that! Out of curiosity, is there a script that will generate the pot file or do you have to edit that manually? I notice that those were changed with this and also with one of Daniel's merges today.

You can see the po files being updated when you run debuild to build the package. In the output, you can see the actual command that updates the po file: intltool-update -p -g checkbox. The output doesn't really say this needs to be run under the po subdirectory, so you may have to cd there.

Thanks for merging and resolving the conflict in debian/changelog during the process, nice!
