Some GNU make versions don't like ONESHELL.

Remove some precise-specific code. Cleaner.

Don't "mktemp" the testing containers into existance. Just use hardcoded ones
that we can expect not to exist. Names that vary are hard to clean up, and
trusty gnu-make doesn't work well with ONESHELL.
