Using the standardized Xesam spec would allow opening/manipulating files by searching within documents using any of these search architectures.

Projects supporting Xesam:
- Beagle: using Beagle Xesam Adaptor.
- Strigi >= 0.5.7
- Tracker ?? "Tracker would support the Xesam interface in future." ??
- Pinot >= 0.8.3
- Recoll >=1.11

My fist try was https://code.launchpad.net/~c-franke/do/XesamSearch , but only working for Gnome-Do < 0.8 and only tested with Beagle.
