is there anything i can do -a log to post, a command to run, anything?- to shed some sort of light to this?

i really don't believe only 34 people have this problem. this way ubuntu is unusable.
I really do want unity to be all that it can't be, and am not just running off to xfce or gnome-shell (which _flies_ on my machine).
