I can confirm that the symtoms in the mentioned bug
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org2/+bug/126996)
are exactly the same as mine. Even the instructions on how to repeat
the issue works.

And I can now also confirm that the switch to nvidia-glx-new driver
didn't help, and neither did changing the graphics card. My bet is on
the #126996 issue.
