I think gnome-session keeps restarting this process. What seems to be working for me, as a work-around, is to have Remote Desktop disabled in the session-preferences (gnome-session-properties).
Then, I use the command:
dbus-launch /usr/lib/vino/vino-server --display=:0.0 &

And I don't even use GNOME! I use XFCE! :-)
