Just wanted to add another GUI example of adding Samba password; this is from OS X TIger 10.4.8 just for exhibiting purposes. OS X also requires a Samba password to share files. I like this better than the Red Hat system config tool for samba, because it shows that you must have *nix user account already created in order for you to create a Samba password for them.
