Hello Bart, All,
this thing is over one year old now. As you can see by the heading:
Affects Status Importance Assigned To
samba (Ubuntu) Unconfirmed Wishlist —
it is not confirmed ( !!! ) has no importance and is not even assigned to anybody.
I think the best you can do, is try a shot upstream at gnome.org or samba.org, this problem is true for all distros I tried so far. Only Fedora had some GUI approach for this, alas it did not work for me ( FC6 )
In addition it is also a problem for cups and ldap as far as my experience goes. The best place to solve the issue in my view would be user management, where you could add for which product this user should be registered ( Samba, Cups, LDAP, etc. )
