I came to the similar conclusion of increasing the buffer sizes when looking at bug #1174444. That issue however resulted in a segfault, but is solved by the same solution.

Matthias I know it's not ideal, but we are following what upstream is doing. Can we get your patch sru'ed into precise asap?
