what i've experienced:
- on lucid i386 + x-swat, with no encryption: no issue at all about this problem
- on maverick updated (i386 + x-swat + no encryption):
system boot fine then login seem ok ( no crash when validating password) but later when i need to enter password again ( for example when asked by synaptic or any other app/service), at that time, validating this password (by pressing "enter") drop me back to gdm login. Reentering password and validating it again work fine this time and dont crash till next reboot.
On my end, this issue is only with maverick and appear 2 weeks ago ( my installation is with gnome+compiz, will try without compiz and report back if any change)
