it really doesn't look very good, and there is a patch in the GNOME bug report which is very simple... (ask for an icon of size 32 and not of size 0).
I guess an alternative fix would be to remove the low-resolution throbber icons from the icon theme.
it would be really nice if that could be fixed for edgy. it's this kind of lack of polish that gives a bad initial impression to many users. let's call it "anti-apple".
