the issue is that mplayer rc3 FTBFS against ffmpeg 0.6. This will be rectified by the next rc4 release of mplayer
as interim solution, I'll upload a copy of mplayer that uses its internal copy of ffmpeg, which is based on ffmpeg 0.5.1
