Mark, I have found if I restart the daemon as the system is still
loading from a boot it may not work. If I wait until everything in Gnome
is loaded and the drive light is off restarting udev usually works. Try
waiting a little longer if you are acting maybe to quickly too. If on
the chance it does not, restart the daemon a second time. This has
always worked for me.
