I've tried the fix so far and it seems stable. But I'll try again tonight from a cold start, since my problem manifested itself badly when the machine is cold - I'd say the settling times are longer when the components are cold, increasing the likelihood for the race conditions.

@zubozrout - the instructions have a typo; the blacklist-btusb.conf file should be in directory /etc/modprobe.d, not /etc.
