I experienced the bug in 2.6.17.1-10.34.
On the linux-nfs mailing list, it was suggested that adding no_subtree_check to the options in /etc/exports is a workaround:

In my situation I was able to do that, and have not seen the error since. Make sure you understand the implications of that option (man 5 exports) for your configuration before you decide to use it.
