This issue is specific to version 5.4.0.42111-2ubuntu1.1

Version 5.4.0.42111-2ubuntu1 still lives in the main repository and seems to work just fine however probably not recommended as .1 was a security update. Downgrading worked for me.

Just got done installing version 5.4.0.42111-2ubuntu1.2 from the ppa and it's working great for me as well.
