It wouldn't be this same exact bug as the 4.15.0-13.14 kernel doesn't
call __ptrace_may_access() when deciding to make use of IBPB while doing
a task switch.
It makes me wonder if you didn't accidentally reboot into the 17.10
kernel by accident (or maybe due to some post upgrade bug).
