I thought the same thing at first, UbuntuOne isn't the kind of messaging service as we might be used to. However, the reason we believe it belongs in the messaging menu is UbuntuOne now sends messages to users. For example, if you have a new share available for your device to subscribe to, it will get an entry in the messaging menu. This allows the user to have time to review their new shares and decide to subscribe or not at their leisure.
