Just tested with the recommended fixes, and the scan functionality does not work. However, my system is running x86_64. However, as a bonus, print functionality is fixed using the hplip 3.10.9 source package. Anyways, the specific error is as follows when running simple-scan...

also, xsane produces similar responses.
