I'm encountering the same issue, same symptoms. I used mini.iso to create a minimal installation disk, then selected a command-line installation. I don't have the disk with me at the moment to give you the precise version of the disk image, but a visit to the download directory...

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/natty/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/

...shows that the mini.iso file was last modified 21-Apr-2011 08:03
