One piece of information that would be really useful is the output of parted for all the devices connected.
Could you please run 'sudo parted -l' in a separate VT on the system during installation, at the point where it asks about the bootloader (or anywhere just before rebooting on the installed system). We may be running into a case where there are no partitions marked as prep partitions for some reason.
