I have just installed a new machine with 9.10 and even though I had selected the correct time zone (europe-paris) the clock was two hours in advance.

Using "date and time" from the "administration" menu (time-admin application - note that I use approximate translations here, my system is in french), I tried the settings "synchronize with time server" surprisingly with no success (was still two hours early). I have tried several servers. I checked the hardware clock in the bios: It was OK.

Then I tried setting the time manually as time-admin seems to permit, but it kept flipping back to the wrong hour after 1 second! The "synchronize now" button did not correct the time either.

This means that at least in some situations it is impossible to set the time either manually or automatically within time-admin! This really deceptive and not very user friendly...

At first, in order to have the proper time displayed, I had found no other way than to switch to the azore time zone (which, of course is not ideal, as is has side effects for files and emails).

I found the way to fix the problem after a few days: Click on the clock applet in the menu bar, open the "places" panel, click the "modify" button, and then in the "clock preference" windows which pops up, click the middle button "set time". There you can actually set the correct time and apply it as system time (right button - with password validation). This procedure works, it's doable, but it's somewhat complicated and really hidden (the modify button is hidden in the "places" panel and one may think it only serves to modify... places!).

Time-admin should be fixed so that one can also set the system time from it. Otherwise it does not deserve its name.
