Closing again. This bug report became fairly useless because there
were so many different issues mixed together. Can you please open a
new one with "ubuntu-bug gnome-power-manager" and attach the log?

  killall -9 gnome-power-manager
  gnome-power-manager --no-daemon --verbose >/tmp/gpm.log 2>&1

then reproduce the problem, and attach /tmp/gpm.log to the new bug.
