Viable work around

cd /usr/share/icons/gapcmon

sudo cp * /usr/share/pixmaps/.

Now go into System/Preferences/Startup Applications

and add /usr/bin/gapcmon

logout/login --

Viola -- it works!

Dumb-@$$ work around - but makes programme functional!
