AFAIK there's nothing to fix for karmic. Karmic's cryptsetup is already fixed as it clears the superblock of newly created partitions. It's the old versions of cryptsetup that are broken and it might be a good idea to patch them up for every release which still is officially supported.
Anyway IMO this bug report must be kept open so that people will find it through bug search when karmic is released and will get bitten by this when they upgrade.
