Hmm, the impact of having that file there in this situation is that if you *then* install the motd-news-config package, it will see that file, remove it, and install /etc/default/motd-news with ENABLED=0 instead of ENABLED=1.

Can you easily remove /etc/default/motd-news.wasremoved manually in your scripts for now for this situation?
