@David, awesome, thank you for testing. The largest improvement was with moving the pointer over Onboard, so I'd expect typing on a touch screen to benefit somewhat less. On my non-touch i3 notebook, crazy pointer motion went from >30% to 12% and hitting a single key as fast as possible from 10-12% to 6.5-7% (Ambiance theme, only Onboard's CPU share).

@mrDoctorWho, just to be sure, did you install 0.98.1+tr984-0ppa~precise~sysdef1 or later from the above snapshot PPA? That one is straight from the development branch (trunk). The regular 0.98.1 release doesn't include the optimizations.
Now that we have another Atom to compare, 60% CPU load looks pretty abysmal. I wonder what's going on. Is that total system load, everything + Onboard? Hitting a single key like crazy without pointer movement? Droid theme? Is that a NVIDIA ION system or does it have the regular Intel IGP?

@both, when Onboard loses key strokes, does that happen anywhere at random? There is still an open bug with firefox' location bar and similar text-entries with popups where it happens to everyone:

All I know about the repeating key issue is, that it happens due to some kind of lag, caused by Onboard and/or by the rest of the system. I'll try something different. I think we have to either get Onboard's worst case latency reacting to button releases down, or allow to turn off key repeat.
