Reverted to 2.5.0 and tried the patch with that:

So far so good.

I went through the failover scenario several times. Logs after 3 or so consecutive successful failovers (no manual or automatic maas service restarts):

Debug logging was enabled for both regiond and rackd so you might find useful info on what was logged during failovers.
