If switching to edge made you see a password request now that still seems to be related.
Some "let us authenticate with LP" mechanism kicks in and the details might depend on the other bits of your host config. But TBH - I'd just want to have it working as before which is that it works without extra config/walltes/PWs for git-ubuntu and just using e.g. the auth/agents on the host.
