Same here, also Gentoo (are we the only people who actually use gtk-update-icon-cache?), Gtk+ 2.24.6

Using 2.7.1 as well as trunk will generate the following message:
$ gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/elementary/
gtk-update-icon-cache: The generated cache was invalid.
$
