I just ran a restore on the problem system using the current lp:duplicity branch. Same issue.

The system that the restore worked on:
Openbsd 4.9-CURRENT i386; Python 2.6.6

The system that it didn't work on:
Openbsd 4.8 amd64; Python 2.6.5

I'm installing Python 2.6.6 on the problem system to eliminate that difference.
