Bug Description

On Debian Sid with byobu 5.16-1 running as root, any call to "apt-get update" (or comparable actions by e.g. unattended-upgrades), leads to a steady increasing count of running "apt-get -s -o Debug::NoLocking=true upgrade" and "grep -c ^Inst" instances.

Additionally, the disk is filling up because of temporary /var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin.*
and /var/cache/apt/srcpkgcache.bin.* files.

(For anyone else reading this bug report because they're having trouble with this on Debian Squeeze, version 5.20 is reported to fix the issue.)

I just hit the same in wheezy. Can the fix be merged upstream?
