After restoring from a suspend, unity sidebar is trashed. See attached screenshot

Me too, using nvidia. Happens every time I resume from suspend. I started experiencing this at the same time when this came up: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/938658

Unity definitely does something wrong wrt background wiping. With the nouveau driver, I can briefly see the purple of the VT just before the sidebar is redrawn.

Mostly likely, the visual difference is because the proprietary drivers handle VT switching differently than the open-source drivers.
