Bug Description

After installation, the initial Maas name is Www-data's. We should find something better. Like My Maas, or based on the hostname instead of the username (which will always be www-data when installing from the package)

I don't really like how "My Maas" sounds but maybe that's just me. This is a really easy fix once we agree on what the default should be: "$hostname Maas" … "$Hostname Maas"?

I think $hostname MAAS will work best as the default will be distinguished from any other MAASes on the network.

See the discussion on bug #956682 for why this is not fixed.

@Huw,

What bug #956682 is missing is an explanation of why having the default name be '' is desirable over $hostname.

@flacoste, this was a direct request from Mark. Matthew says Mark has since seen the hostname addition and Matthew is chasing up which course of action to take.

In our design call with Mark on Feb 16th, Mark requested that the default MAAS name be blank and so would show up simply as "MAAS".

In #cloud-dev we discussed this bug report and Francis asked for my input. I agreed that $hostname MAAS would make a good default in order to distinguish one MAAS from other MAASes on a network. Mark commented that it was a nice idea but I don't have the log to paste here. (I'll dig it out for a subsequent comment.)

Once MAAS can detect and work with other MAASes on the same network, we could revert to having a blank MAAS name where we've detected just one MAAS.

Ok, so there is nothing to change here.

(I recall Mark's approval of your suggestion.)
