Bug Description

It seems that the Synaptic package only ships a subset of the available translations in the code:

$ sudo apt-get install synaptic
$ dpkg -L synaptic | grep synaptic.mo | wc -l
44
$ bzr branch lp:synaptic
$ cd synaptic
$ ls po | grep "\.po\b" | wc -l
111

This was first noticed using an en_AU locale:

Language is set to English (Australia). Synaptic fails to display en_AU translations, such as dialog, organized and Colors

Should be dialogue, organised and Colours.

These have been translated months ago -- https://translations.launchpad.net/synaptic/main/+lang/en_AU

Moving the bug from ubuntu-translations to synaptic, as synaptic is no longer in main and thus cannot be translated in Ubuntu (but can still be translated upstream at https://translations.launchpad.net/synaptic/main/)

I think the only thing needed is to ship a new package including the new translations.

I thought that Synaptic was auto-committing translations to the trunk branch, but it seems it's doing it on an external one. So before doing the upload, the https://code.launchpad.net/~synaptic-developers/synaptic/i18n branch needs to be merged to trunk.

This bug was fixed in the package synaptic - 0.75.9

---------------
synaptic (0.75.9) unstable; urgency=low

  * generate synaptic.pot during the package build to really enable
    langpack support
