This means that we can process new subscribtions and mailing only about 4 times per hour. And this is probably not going to get better as the number of mailing lists and subscribers is going to grow.

The combination of enabling batching and optimising the DB calls made by the XML-RPC requests has brought the cycle time down to 4 minutes -- 15 times an hour.
