Note that the latest release of Shotwell (0.11) builds only with GTK 2. The next release (0.12) will appear in early 2012, and will support GTK 3. In the meantime, we'd like to have a daily build of the current trunk, which does already support GTK 3. We're working on that:

Thanks for the bug report, that's somewhat on my list since the desktop summit to get testing for the GTK3 version but that got delayed due to the Oneiric rush, we should have time to look at that now ... Adam, would it help if we package snapshots from the GTK3 version for the main archive during the unstable cycle that is starting? User running unstable distributions early should be able to deal with bugs and it would give higher feedback that a ppa build

Sebastian, I tried to setup a daily build recipe a while back on my testbed ppa here:
https://code.launchpad.net/~eric-yorba/+recipe/shotwell-daily

Despite some help from Jorge Castro and Ken VanDine on putting the recipe together, we were never able to figure out exactly why it wouldn't build.

Ideally, I'd like to get this working and then copy the recipe over to our official Yorba Launchpad page.

I have confirmed locally that this recipe builds with dailydeb, but it fails on launchpad

The reason for the recipe failing to build is the changelog is malformed.

The changed-by line for the latest eight entries is:

 -- Lucas Beeler <email address hidden> Tue, 18 October 2011 12:02:25 -0800

Instead, it should be:

 -- Lucas Beeler <email address hidden> Tue, 18 Oct 2011 12:02:25 -0800

I have pushed a branch, lp:~stevenk/shotwell/fix-changelog that fixes the changelog entries, and have created a recipe, https://code.launchpad.net/~stevenk/+recipe/shotwell-test that builds successfully. The resultant packages, don't though. :-)

While I remember, I would recommend using 'dch' to create the changelog entries to stop further occurrences of this.

Thanks for the sleuthing, Steve. I've now fixed the malformed changelog entries upstream. Yes, we should use dch from now on.
