Thank you for your bug. Due to a bug with linux 2.6.20-6 the coredump is not usable, could you try getting a new one when running the update 2.6.20-8 package?

Thanks for the quick reply. Installed the 2.6.20-8 and the PC no longer starts up. Unrelated bug, seems the identification my hard drives was juggled around, will file separate bug for this.

Does this still happen Anders? If so, can you attach the report found in /var/crash to this bug report? Have you sorted out your HDD issue?

Freddy, why do you ask for a crash file? the bug already has one

Sebastian, I asked because the your comment above said the core dump is not usable with that kernel. I was under the impression that we needed a new core dump to retrace it. Am I mistaken? If so, let me know so I can not do this.

right, an updated crash file would be useful, the working of your stock reply could be changed though

I am a victim of the Kernel 2.6.20-13+-14 acpi bug #96480, so I have to use kernel 2.6.20-12 of earlier to run Feisty.
After the last software updates this morning metacity crashed for the first time (see attached file).
There's also a problem with the GNOME Desktop. The titlebars of all windows are missing. I cannot change the window settings "window manager <unknown>".
Maybe the recent updates are incompatible to the old kernel 2.6.20-12

@Martin: for the missing windows settings: open a terminal under your X session, and run 'metacity --replace'. This will not solve the cause, but will allow you to use the X session.

Thank you hggdh, the tilebars are back again.
It's probably a configuration problem. If I create a new user account and log in to it, all settings seem to be ok.
Before I used the command 'metacity --replace' the gconf entries
/desktop/gnome/applications/window-manager/default and
/desktop/gnome/applications/window-manager/current were empty.

When I go to Desktop Effects and try to enable it no longer crashes but it also does not work. Presumably because I have two monitors?
Anyway I can confirm it no longer crashes as in the original bug report.
