Move Synaptic to System tools

Bug Description

Binary package hint: synaptic

This just a suggestion or enhancement. I think that Synaptic is a very used application, at least on the first days of using Ubuntu, and it is really hard to find it in the new Control Center. Perhaps it could be moved to System Tools, as it is not really a configuration tool, but a system tool.

Thanks for your bugreport.

I commited a patch for this to the synaptic bzr repo.I think it does really not fit in the new control-center.

Cheers,
 Michael

The control center is now optional and people with their old menus back would really like to have synaptic in the Administration menu where it (IMO) belongs.

I agree with Travis.
Synaptic is the only program that requires root to launch from the Applications menu, AFAIK.
Yes, gdebi and gnome-app-install require root to do anything, but you can at least start them without root.
Synaptic should be placed in Administration.
gnome-app-install is sufficient for the Apps menu...

Well, as I was who started the bug, I would like to give my opinion, although I am just a common user. I really don't care if Synaptic is in the Applications or System menu. What I like is to have its launcher easy to access, and with the Control Center it had turned a bit more difficult.

But it seems that there are more people as me and now Alacarte has the option of seeing the Control Center, the Preferences menu, or both! So now, if you put again Syanptic in the Preferences menu, I can access it quickly just with keys, as I had ever done.

Its back in the old location because the shell view was dropped again.
