Bug Description

Attempted to do a command-line installation from the Feisty Herd 1 i386 Alternate CD, on an IBM x206m with an Adaptec 94xx SAS controller.

The installer reported that no disks were found, and presented a list of drivers, including the aic94xx driver. Selecting it had no effect, as did "modprobe aic94xx" from the command-line. There was nothing reported in dmesg in either case.

The aacraid module did load, but did not help on this system which has its SAS RAID disabled.

Immediately prior to this test, a server installation had been performed using the Ubuntu 6.06.1 AMD64 Alternate CD. The installer detected the controller and drive, and once the workaround described in bug #46510 had been applied the installed system was able to boot from the SAS drive.

Thank your bug report. Feisty Herd 2 was recently released and we would appreciate it if you could test it and let us know the results.

Unfortunately with Herd 2 Alternate the situation is worse... on the x206m the installer did not get beyond the keyboard selection screens (did not get to "dectecting hardware"). The "console" VT shows rapidly repeating "kernel: not found" messages.

The CD verifies OK, but not on the x206... attempting to verify the CD on the x206 results in the same problem.

The system has one SAS drive on the Adaptec controller (with 6.06.1 AMD64 Alt. installed), and one SATA drive on the motherboard integrated controller.

Kernel firmware was added some time ago, and scsi-firmware udeb created. I've just uploaded the initramfs-tools changes to make sure the firmware gets added to the initrd as well.
