This bug report is not at all clear. Which Ubuntu version is used? Does vlc only segfault on such a video created by mythtv?

Edgy Eft. I consider myself relatively inexperienced with linux. I have not tried to play the recording on another player. I am still trying to figure out how to play it in MythTV. I am going to make another recording today for comparison and also try to play it on a windows computer. FYI, when I try to play the live stream hdtv on MythTV, I get studdering of video and audio except the PBS channel. I believe the system is underpowered. I have software RAID 5 set up for storage with two SATA drives and one PATA drive, and the OS files booting on software RAID 1 between the SATA drives. The processor is pentium 4 @ 1.6ghz. I have recently read this is way underpowered for HDTV on MythTV, but I wouldn't expect that to cause VLC to crash as well. Thanks for your interest

I don't use VLC for this anymore. I will try it again in the near future and let you know if it is still a problem. Thanks for checking
