Hi,
I'm assuming it's the Realtek card and not the "CX8801" that's buzzing?
Can you please try to start "alsamixer -D hw:NVidia", try to mute "CD playback volume" and see if that makes a difference?

It works, no more buzzing.
The cx8801 is the tv card, Realtek is the buzzer.

Hmm, we could mute the "CD" channel by default in Ubuntu, question is if many others depend on this channel (it's pretty legacy these days...), and if that would in turn be an inconvenience for them.

Considering that CD playback is usually done digitally these days, i.e rhythmbox/banshee using gstreamer literally rip the CD and play it back through the sound card, this is certainly worth considering.
