This is obviously a good idea in principle. But in practice the Ubuntu font (which the numbers are drawn in on Maverick/Natty) does not seem to include these characters, so ℃ or ℉ is taken from a different font and is of a slightly different size. This is particularly noticeable with ℉. Until this is added to the ubuntu font, I think it looks better to use ˚C and ˚F. If you agree, then make the change and it'll have a positive review from me.
